Horizon 16
Horizon 16 is a line-level audio interface and monitoring system built for studios that need more analogue I/O without adding microphone preamps to every channel. Sixteen analogue inputs and outputs are carried on Tascam-format D-sub connections, with a further stereo pair of TRS line inputs on channels 17–18 and dedicated TRS monitor outputs on channels 17–18.
At a glance
-
16 D-sub line inputs and 16 D-sub line outputs
-
2 additional TRS line inputs and dedicated monitor outputs on channels 17–18
-
34 Virtual Channels from the host computer
-
2 optical digital input/output banks for ADAT or S/PDIF
-
BNC word clock and Thunderbolt connectivity for multi-device Horizon systems. Cascaded Horizon systems must be clocked via BNC word clock
The analogue inputs appear directly in the Horizon Control Mixer, where they can be named and balanced for low-latency monitoring alongside digital inputs and computer playback. Because Horizon 16 is line level throughout, the Mixer does not contain preamp gain, phantom-power or other microphone-input controls; the source level is set by the equipment feeding Horizon.
TRS outputs 17–18 are Horizon 16's dedicated monitor-output pair. When Horizon 16 is the Primary monitoring device, Horizon Control provides the Main Mix, Independent Mixes, Monitor Controller, Monitor Profiles and Speaker Layouts used to manage the listening system without changing the audio level being recorded in the DAW.
Two optical digital input and output banks provide ADAT or S/PDIF connectivity, while BNC word clock handles digital synchronisation. Two Thunderbolt ports carry the host connection and allow additional Horizon devices to be chained into the same system. Up to four Horizon devices can be used together, with one unit designated Primary for active monitoring.
The Horizon 16 front panel is intentionally simple. The Control Wheel and Motion UI are centred on monitor level, metering, status and hardware settings, while detailed mixing, routing and system configuration are handled in Horizon Control.
