Front Panel & Motion UI
Horizon 16 front panel.
The Horizon 16 front panel contains the Motion UI display and a single Control Wheel. There are no microphone-preamp controls on Horizon 16; front-panel operation is therefore focused on monitoring, metering, status and system settings.
Metering is the normal idle state. When you adjust monitor level or change a monitoring function in Horizon Control, Motion UI temporarily shows the relevant parameter or status and then returns to metering after a period of inactivity.
First power-up
The first time Horizon 16 is powered on:
-
When mains power is applied, Horizon 16 powers on automatically.
-
Motion UI shows the startup animation, Horizon logo and Welcome screen.
- Rotate the Control Wheel to set the display brightness.
-
Press the Control Wheel to continue.
-
Horizon 16 opens to the default speaker-output metering view.
The brightness setting can be changed again later from front-panel Settings.
Adjusting monitor level
Rotate the Control Wheel to adjust the level of the designated monitor outputs. Turn clockwise to increase the level and counterclockwise to decrease it.
As soon as the level is adjusted, Motion UI changes from the normal meter view to the Output Summary. The Output Summary provides the current listening level together with output metering and monitoring-state information.
The display reflects the active monitoring configuration supplied by Horizon Control, including the active Monitor Profile, its Speaker Layout and the state of relevant monitor functions.
Monitoring-state feedback
Monitoring functions are controlled from Horizon Control and their state is reflected on Motion UI. Horizon 16 does not provide separate front-panel buttons for these functions.
Motion UI can provide temporary status feedback for states including:
- Mute;
- Dim;
- Mono;
- Mid/Side / polarity state;
- Talkback;
For example, changing Mute in Horizon Control produces a temporary MUTE ON or MUTE OFF status screen. The same temporary on/off feedback is used for supported software monitoring states such as Dim, Mono, polarity/Mid-Side and Talkback. After the temporary status screen has been shown, Motion UI returns to the normal metering view.
Horizon 16 has no separate physical Function button.
Metering pages
Press the Control Wheel repeatedly to move through the available input and output meter views.
Horizon 16 provides front-panel metering for:
- main monitor outputs;
- D-sub line inputs 1–16;
- TRS line inputs 17–18;
- Digital Inputs 1;
- Digital Inputs 2;
Motion UI displays a maximum of eight meters per page. Meter groups containing more than eight channels are divided across several pages.
The Control Wheel moves sequentially through the available meter pages, making it possible to check the available input and output meters without keeping the Horizon Control window open. The powered-on host computer must remain connected over Thunderbolt.
Opening front-panel Settings
Press and hold the Control Wheel for three seconds to open Settings.
Rotate the Control Wheel to move through the menu and press it to select the highlighted option.
| Option | Description |

Power
Select Power from front-panel Settings to power down Horizon 16. The Control Wheel is used to confirm the power-down action. Once powered down, briefly press and release the Control Wheel to power the unit back on.
Brightness
Open Brightness to change the Motion UI and front-panel LED brightness with the Control Wheel. Use the on-screen controls to Save the new setting or Cancel the change.
Status
The Status view is useful when checking digital connections. It shows the current sample rate, the selected digital-input format and whether the digital inputs are successfully clocked.
Word Clock Termination
Use Word Clock Termination to enable or disable the Horizon 16 75 Ω BNC termination. When Horizon 16 is the final or only receiving device in a BNC word-clock chain, termination should be enabled.
Factory Reset
Factory Reset restores the Horizon 16 hardware settings to the factory state. Use this only when you intend to discard the current hardware configuration.
About
The About page identifies the unit and its installed firmware information. It displays the product name, serial number, FPGA version, Horizon firmware, front-panel firmware and copyright information.
