Rear Panel & Connections
Horizon 16 rear panel.
Horizon 16 provides 18 analogue inputs and 18 analogue outputs together with optical digital I/O, Thunderbolt and BNC word clock.
IEC power
Horizon 16 is powered from a 100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz IEC mains input.
Optical digital I/O
Two optical digital inputs and two optical digital outputs are provided.
Select ADAT or S/PDIF in Hardware Settings. The number of digital channels shown in Horizon Control and the Routing Matrix changes with the selected Digital Mode and sample rate.
Thunderbolt ports
Two Thunderbolt ports provide the host audio/data connection and Horizon device daisy chaining.
Connect the first Horizon device to the host computer, then use its second Thunderbolt port to connect the next Horizon device. Either Thunderbolt port can be used on subsequent Horizon devices in the chain.
Horizon Control supports up to four connected Horizon devices in one system.
Word clock input
The BNC word-clock input allows Horizon 16 to synchronise to an external word-clock source when External (Word Clock) is selected.
When several Horizon devices are connected together, secondary Horizon devices receive word clock from the Primary device as part of the Horizon-to-Horizon clocking arrangement.
Word clock output
The BNC word-clock output sends a clock signal to another Horizon device or compatible digital equipment.
Switchable 75 Ω termination is available from the Horizon 16 front-panel Settings view.
TRS line inputs 17–18
Two TRS analogue line inputs provide channels 17–18.
These appear as analogue input channels 17–18 in Horizon Control.
TRS line outputs 17–18
Two TRS analogue outputs on channels 17–18 are dedicated monitor outputs.
When Horizon 16 is the Primary monitoring device, these dedicated monitor outputs are identified with speaker icons in the Routing Matrix.
D-sub line inputs 1–16
Two Tascam-format D-sub connectors provide 16 analogue line inputs, channels 1–16.
All 16 D-sub inputs can be used at the same time.
D-sub line outputs 1–16
Two Tascam-format D-sub connectors provide 16 analogue line outputs, channels 1–16. Every analogue D-sub input and output bank uses the Tascam/AES59 pinout: channel 1 +/−/screen = 24/12/25; channel 2 = 10/23/11; channel 3 = 21/9/22; channel 4 = 7/20/8; channel 5 = 18/6/19; channel 6 = 4/17/5; channel 7 = 15/3/16; channel 8 = 1/14/2. Pin 13 is unused. Use balanced analogue Tascam-standard DB25 cables, looms or breakout cables.
All 16 D-sub outputs can be used at the same time.
