DAW Setup
Sample rate
iD4 MKII supports 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz sample rates.
Higher sample rates increase audio file size and processing requirements. Choose the rate appropriate for the project and keep the interface and project set to the same rate.
Buffer size and latency
Buffer size determines how many samples are buffered for audio processing. Lower buffer sizes reduce monitoring latency but place more demand on the computer. Higher buffer sizes provide more processing time and are useful for larger sessions or mixing.
If you are monitoring the live inputs with iD4 MKII's Monitor Mix control, you can use a higher buffer size because the direct-monitor path does not need to pass through the DAW.
If you are monitoring through DAW plug-ins, use the lowest buffer size the computer can run reliably.
- macOS: set the buffer size in the DAW.
- Windows: set the buffer size in the iD application. The V1.3 iD4 manual documents values from 32 to 4096 samples.
- iOS/iPadOS: buffer controls depend on the audio application being used.
Logic Pro
- Connect iD4 MKII and open Logic Pro > Settings > Audio.
- Select iD4 as the input and output device.
- Set a suitable I/O buffer size for the project.
- Set the project sample rate as required.
- If using iD4 MKII direct monitoring, disable Logic's Software Monitoring to avoid hearing a duplicate input signal.
Pro Tools
- Connect iD4 MKII and open Setup > Playback Engine.
- Select iD4 as the playback engine.
- Open Setup > I/O to configure and label the required input and output paths.
- If using iD4 MKII direct monitoring, disable input monitoring on the corresponding Pro Tools tracks.
On Windows, set the required sample rate and buffer size in the iD application before opening the session when possible.
Cubase and Nuendo
Current Cubase/Nuendo versions use the Audio System and Audio Connections panels.
- Connect iD4 MKII and open Studio > Studio Setup.
- Open Audio System and select the Audient iD driver/device.
- Open Studio > Audio Connections, or press F4, and assign the required iD4 inputs and outputs to the project buses.
- If using iD4 MKII direct monitoring, turn off track input monitoring for the same signal.
Ableton Live
- Connect iD4 MKII and open Live's Audio settings.
- Select iD4 as the audio input/output device as required.
- Set the project sample rate and buffer size.
- If using iD4 MKII direct monitoring, turn off monitoring for the corresponding Live track to avoid hearing a duplicate signal.
