Input Conditioning

ASP800 provides 48 V phantom power and a −15 dB pad on all eight channels. Polarity reverse is available on RETRO channels 1 and 2.

48 V phantom power

Press a channel’s +48V switch to supply phantom power. The supply is 48 V ±4 V at 10 mA per channel and is suitable for phantom-powered condenser microphones and ribbon microphones with active onboard head amplifiers.

warning

Mute the monitoring path and turn phantom power off before connecting or disconnecting a microphone. Only enable phantom power for microphones or active devices that require it.

Polarity reverse

Press ø on channel 1 or 2 to reverse polarity by 180 degrees. Use careful microphone placement first, then compare polarity settings to find the fullest and most solid low-frequency result in a multi-microphone setup.

Common examples include the kick microphone relative to drum overheads, or an underside snare microphone relative to the top snare microphone.

tip

Always remember to check phase.

−15 dB pad

Every channel has a −15 dB attenuator. The pad is designed to maintain source and load impedances while reducing the signal level from hot microphones. Engage it when additional headroom is required, particularly on loud sources.
