| +48 V | Phantom power supplied through a microphone input for compatible condenser microphones and other active equipment. |
| ADAT | A multichannel digital audio format carried over optical connections. |
| ORBIT | ORBIT Variable Impedance Control for Horizon 8P Mic/Line inputs, with Low, Medium and High settings. |
| Clock master | The device that provides the timing reference used by the other connected digital audio devices. |
| Clock source | The timing reference used to synchronise a digital audio system. |
| Control Wheel | The main rotary control on the Horizon 8P front panel, used to adjust parameters and navigate the Motion UI. |
| Cue mix | A monitoring mix created for a performer. On Horizon, separate cue mixes can be created using Independent Mixes. |
| DAC | Digital-to-analogue converter. Converts digital audio into an analogue signal. |
| DAW | Digital Audio Workstation. Software used to record, edit, mix and play audio. |
| dB | Decibel. A unit used to express the level or ratio of an audio signal. |
| dBFS | Decibels relative to digital full scale. 0 dBFS represents the maximum digital level. |
| dBu | A measurement of analogue signal level referenced to 0.775 V RMS. |
| D-sub | A multi-pin connector used to carry several analogue audio channels through a single connection. |
| Fast Scroll Bar | A Mixer control used to move quickly through larger channel configurations. |
| Firmware | Software stored within Horizon hardware that controls its operation. |
| Gain | The amount by which an input signal is amplified. |
| HPF | High-pass filter. Reduces frequencies below the selected cutoff frequency. |
| Independent Mix | One of four separate monitoring mixes, Mix A–D, that can be created independently of the Main Mix. |
| Instrument Input | An input designed for the direct connection of instruments such as electric guitar or bass. |
| Latency | The delay between a signal entering a system and the resulting audio being heard or recorded. |
| Line level | An analogue signal level used between compatible audio devices. |
| Main Mix | The primary monitoring mix in Horizon Control. |
| Mic/Line | The Horizon 8P preamp input mode used for microphone- or line-level sources. |
| Monitor Profile | A saved monitoring configuration associated with a Speaker Layout. |
| Monitoring path | The signal path used for listening. Mixer monitoring controls can adjust this path without changing the input signal sent for recording. |
| Motion UI | The Horizon 8P Motion UI used to show metering, parameter values, input and output summaries, monitoring states and settings. |
| Pad | A control that attenuates an incoming signal before amplification. Horizon 8P provides 10 dB of Pad attenuation. |
| Phantom power | See +48 V. |
| Polarity invert | Reverses the polarity of an audio signal. Horizon uses polarity inversion as part of its Mid/Side monitoring mode. |
