Rear Panel & Connections
Horizon 8P rear panel.
The rear panel carries the mains connection, Thunderbolt connection, optical digital I/O, word clock, analogue line I/O and the eight Audient Console preamp inputs. The D-sub line returns share input channels 1–8 with the Mic/Line preamps, while the D-sub line outputs remain available independently.
IEC power
Horizon 8P is powered from a 100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz IEC mains input.
Optical inputs and outputs
2 x optical digital inputs and 2 x optical digital outputs provide the two digital I/O banks shown in Horizon Control. Select ADAT or S/PDIF mode in Hardware Settings. The available channel count depends on the sample rate and selected mode, with up to 16 channels of ADAT input and output available.
Thunderbolt ports
2 x Thunderbolt ports carry audio and control data between Horizon 8P and the host computer and allow additional Horizon devices to be daisy-chained. Connect the first Horizon device to the host computer, then use its second Thunderbolt port to connect the next Horizon device. Either port can be used on subsequent devices.
Word clock input
The word clock input is used to synchronise a Horizon device to an incoming word-clock signal. In a multi-Horizon system, secondary Horizon devices receive word clock from the Primary device, while the Primary device uses its internal clock.
Word clock output
1 x word clock output sends clocking information from Horizon 8P to connected expander devices. This can be used for additional Horizon devices or third-party ADAT expanders.
Line outputs
4 x TRS line outputs are provided on channels 9–12. Outputs 9–10 are the dedicated Main monitor outputs. Outputs 11–12 are additional TRS line outputs and can be routed as required in Horizon Control.
D-sub line inputs
8 x line inputs are provided via a Tascam-format DB25 connector. Each D-sub return shares a channel with the corresponding Mic/Line input, so the two sources cannot be used simultaneously on the same channel. Selection is per channel — for example, channels 1–4 can use Mic/Line while channels 5–8 use D-sub returns.
D-sub line outputs
8 x line outputs are provided via a Tascam-format DB25 connector. Unlike the D-sub line inputs, these outputs remain available regardless of which input source is selected on channels 1–8. Both analogue D-sub connectors use the Tascam/AES59 pinout: channel 1 +/−/screen = 24/12/25; channel 2 = 10/23/11; channel 3 = 21/9/22; channel 4 = 7/20/8; channel 5 = 18/6/19; channel 6 = 4/17/5; channel 7 = 15/3/16; channel 8 = 1/14/2. Pin 13 is unused. Use a balanced analogue Tascam-standard DB25 loom or breakout cable.
Preamp inputs
8 x Audient Console preamps with combi-jack connectors. Input settings are controllable from the front panel and from Horizon Control.
