TermMeaning
ADCAnalogue-to-digital converter. Converts an analogue input signal into digital audio for the computer.
ARCAudient Resource Centre. The Audient account and product-registration service used to access software and product resources.
Artist MixEVO 8's secondary software-monitor mix for outputs 3+4 / headphone output 2. It can have a different balance from the main mix.
ASIOAudio Stream Input/Output. The Windows low-latency audio-driver system used by recording applications with EVO 8.
Buffer sizeThe amount of audio held by the computer's audio driver while processing. Smaller buffers reduce software-monitoring latency but require more processing performance.
Control KnobEVO 8's central rotary control. Its function changes according to the selected input or output group.
DACDigital-to-analogue converter. Converts digital audio from the computer into analogue signals for the speaker and headphone outputs.
DAWDigital Audio Workstation. Software used to record, edit, mix or play back audio.
dBDecibel. A unit used to express changes or ratios in audio level.
dBFSDecibels relative to digital full scale. 0 dBFS is the maximum level in a digital audio system.
dBuA voltage-referenced audio level where 0 dBu equals 0.775 Vrms.
DI / instrument inputThe high-impedance input used to connect instruments such as electric guitar or bass directly to EVO 8. Connecting the front instrument input overrides rear input 1.
GainThe amount of amplification applied to an input signal before conversion to digital audio.
JFETJunction Field Effect Transistor. EVO 8 uses a JFET instrument-input stage for high-impedance instruments.
LatencyThe delay between an audio signal entering or being generated by the system and being heard at an output.
LoopbackInternal routing that presents computer playback or an EVO Mixer mix to recording or streaming software as a stereo input. On EVO 8 the loopback signal appears on input channels 5+6.
Loopback 1+2EVO 8's dedicated loopback playback pair, corresponding to computer outputs 5+6. The hyphenated form is retained where it matches the EVO application label.
Main MixThe primary monitor mix in the EVO Mixer, normally used for outputs 1+2 / headphone output 1.
Phantom power / 48VDC power sent through an XLR microphone connection for microphones that require it, typically condenser microphones. Check the microphone documentation before enabling it.
Sample rateThe number of digital audio samples taken each second. EVO 8 supports 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz sample rates.
SmartgainEVO's automatic gain-setting feature. It analyses the selected input signals while you perform and sets their input gains automatically. EVO 8 can set multiple inputs during one Smartgain process.
SmartMutingEVO 8 behaviour that automatically mutes the matching speaker-output pair when headphones are connected to that output group.
Stereo linkLinks inputs 1+2 or 3+4 so the pair can be controlled and displayed together for a stereo source.
TRSTip-Ring-Sleeve 1/4-inch jack connection. Commonly used for balanced line-level audio and stereo headphones.
TSTip-Sleeve 1/4-inch jack connection. Commonly used for unbalanced instrument connections.
USB bus powerPower supplied to EVO 8 through its USB connection, so a separate power supply is not normally required. The available USB current affects simultaneous phantom-power capacity.
XLRThree-pin balanced connector used for microphone signals.
