Troubleshooting

Use the checks below for common EVO 8 setup and operating issues. If the problem remains after completing the relevant checks, contact Audient Support.

EVO 8 is not detected by the computer

  1. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable at both ends.
  2. Try another data-capable USB port on the computer.
  3. If possible, connect EVO 8 directly to the computer rather than through a hub or dock while troubleshooting.
  4. Try another USB data cable.
  5. On Windows, make sure the current EVO driver is installed and restart the computer after installation.

See Software Installation and Registration for the normal setup process.

There is no signal from an input

Press the numbered button for the input you are using and check the meter ring around the Control Knob.

If there is no input level:

  • Check that the microphone, instrument or line source and its cable are connected securely.
  • Increase the input gain or use Smartgain.
  • If the microphone requires phantom power, select the input and enable 48V.
  • Check that the input is not muted. A flashing input button indicates that the channel is muted; press and hold the button to unmute it.
  • If you are trying to use rear input 1, make sure a cable is not connected to the front instrument input. The front instrument input overrides rear input 1.

If Smartgain flashes red and does not complete, check the source level and cable connections and make sure phantom power is enabled when the microphone requires it.

Phantom power is unavailable on all four inputs

The number of channels that can use phantom power depends on the USB host connection:

  • A suitable USB-C host capable of supplying 1.5 A can provide phantom power to all four microphone inputs.
  • A USB-A host limits phantom power to two channels at a time.

See Input Controls and Smartgain for the documented limits.

I cannot hear my speakers

Check the output group you are using:

  • Output Volume button 1 controls outputs 1+2 and headphone output 1.
  • Output Volume button 2 controls outputs 3+4 and headphone output 2.

Press and hold the relevant Output Volume button if it is flashing; a flashing button indicates that the output group is muted.

Also check SmartMuting. Connecting headphones to headphone output 1 automatically mutes speaker outputs 1+2, and connecting headphones to headphone output 2 automatically mutes speaker outputs 3+4.

See Monitoring and Output Controls.

I need separate speaker and headphone mixes

Use the two output groups rather than connecting the headphones to the same group as the speakers.

A common configuration is:

  • Main speakers on outputs 1+2
  • Artist headphones on headphone output 2

Then enable Artist Mix in the EVO Mixer and build a separate mix for outputs 3+4 / headphone output 2.

See EVO Mixer and Configurations.

The EVO Mixer does not appear

The EVO application runs from the operating system menu area rather than always appearing as a conventional application window.

  • On macOS, look for the EVO icon in the menu bar at the top-right of the screen.
  • On Windows, look for the EVO icon in the system tray at the bottom-right of the screen.

With EVO 8 connected, use the EVO menu to open the mixer.

See I have installed the drivers, but cannot find the EVO mixer for the current Audient guidance.

Mixer routing has become confusing or incorrect

If the EVO Mixer has been configured into an unwanted routing state, Audient provides a procedure for resetting the mixer application to its default settings.

The reset removes the EVO mixer state.xml file after quitting the application, then recreates the default state when the application is reopened.

Follow the current platform-specific procedure in How to reset the EVO mixer application.

Loopback is not appearing or recording

  • Make sure EVO 8 is connected and the current EVO application is installed.
  • Open the EVO application menu and check Set Loopback Source.
  • In the recording or streaming application, select EVO 8 Input 5+6 or the available Loopback 1+2 input name.
  • If using Master Mix or Artist Mix as the loopback source, check the relevant fader levels in the EVO Mixer.
  • If using the dedicated loopback playback channels, confirm the computer or application is routed to Loopback 1+2.

See Audio Loopback for the complete source and routing options.

EVO 8 is not working as expected with an iPhone or iPad

EVO 8 is not officially supported on iOS. Audient states that full EVO 8 functionality requires the EVO application, which is not available on iOS. Basic input or output may work in some applications, but correct operation is not guaranteed.

Use a supported macOS or Windows computer for full functionality.

See EVO 8 - iOS Compatibility.

EVO 8 behaves unexpectedly after power-up

Install the latest EVO software and firmware before carrying out deeper troubleshooting. Firmware updates include compatibility improvements and fixes for previously identified behaviour.

See Firmware Updates and the EVO 8 Firmware Changelog.
