Glossary
AD/DA conversion
Analogue-to-digital and digital-to-analogue conversion. EVO SP8 can convert analogue inputs to digital audio for ADAT transmission and convert incoming digital audio for its analogue line outputs.
ADAT
The digital-audio format used by EVO SP8's optical inputs and outputs. At 44.1 and 48 kHz, one optical connection carries eight channels; at 88.2 and 96 kHz, each optical connection carries four.
ADAT SMUX
The ADAT mode used by EVO SP8 at 88.2 and 96 kHz. Two optical connections are required to use all eight channels at these sample rates.
Clocking
The process of synchronising digitally connected audio devices to the same timing reference.
Clock Source
The setting that determines where EVO SP8 receives its digital clock: Internal, Digital or Word Clock.
EVO Expanded System
A system combining EVO 16 with one or two EVO SP8 preamp expanders. With EVO 16 and two SP8 units, Smartgain can operate across up to 24 input channels.
Primary clock
The term used in EVO SP8 V2.2 for the device that provides the clock signal to the other digital devices in a system. This online manual generally calls it the clock source.
Replica clock
The term used in EVO SP8 V2.2 for a device that synchronises to the primary clock. This online manual generally describes it as a device synchronised to the clock source.
Sample rate
The number of digital-audio samples taken per second. EVO SP8 supports 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz.
Smartgain
EVO's automatic input-gain setting feature. Smartgain analyses selected input signals and sets their gain automatically.
Stereo Link
A function that pairs adjacent EVO SP8 inputs so their gain can be adjusted together. Available pairs are 1 + 2, 3 + 4, 5 + 6 and 7 + 8.
Word clock
A dedicated timing signal used to synchronise digital audio devices. EVO SP8 can receive word clock through its BNC Word Clock Input.
Word Clock Termination
The setting used when EVO SP8 is part of a BNC word-clock chain. Set termination On when EVO SP8 is the final device in the chain and Off when the clock connection continues from that unit to another device.
