Input Controls and Smartgain

Select an input and set gain

Press one of the numbered input buttons to select that channel. The Input Status display shows the selected input, its gain value and its level meter.

Turn the Control Wheel to adjust gain for the selected channel.

Mute an input

Press and hold the selected input button to mute it. The input button flashes while muted and the gain value is replaced by a mute icon. Press and hold the input button again to unmute it.

48V phantom power

Select an input, then press 48V to enable phantom power for that channel. Phantom power is independently selectable for each microphone input.

caution

Before enabling phantom power, check the requirements of the connected microphone or device.

Instrument mode

Instrument mode is available on inputs 1 and 2. Select input 1 or 2, then press Instrument to enable its JFET instrument input mode.

Instrument mode and 48V phantom power cannot be active on the same channel at the same time.

EVO SP8 supports linked adjacent input pairs: 1 + 2, 3 + 4, 5 + 6 and 7 + 8. Linked channels share gain adjustment and are shown as a linked pair on the display.

The approved EVO SP8 V2.2 source located for this rebuild documents Stereo Link behaviour but does not state the SP8-specific front-panel action used to enable or disable the link. That control action is therefore not reproduced here until it is confirmed.

Smartgain

  1. Press the green Smartgain button.
  2. Select the inputs you want Smartgain to analyse. Hold Smartgain to select all eight inputs.
  3. Press Smartgain again to begin.
  4. Perform the loudest or most dynamic section of the material while Smartgain listens.
  5. When analysis is complete, review the result on the display.

A green result indicates success, red indicates a channel where Smartgain could not complete successfully, and grey indicates an input that was not selected.

If Smartgain reports an issue, check the microphone cable, check whether the microphone requires phantom power, move the microphone closer to the sound source if appropriate, then run Smartgain again. Failed channels are automatically selected for another pass.

When several inputs are selected, make sure every selected microphone receives signal during the listening period.

In an EVO Expanded System, Smartgain can operate across up to 24 input channels.
