Troubleshooting
Use the checks below if EVO SP8 is not operating as expected.
EVO SP8 will not synchronise
Open the Status screen and check the clock indicator.
- Green — EVO SP8 is synchronised.
- Amber — a valid clock is detected but the sample rate does not match.
- Red — no valid clock is detected.
If the indicator is amber, make sure EVO SP8 and the external clock source use the same sample rate. If it is red, check the digital or word-clock connection and try another cable. Make sure only one device in the digital system is acting as the clock source.
Only four ADAT channels are available
At 88.2 and 96 kHz, each optical ADAT connection carries four channels. Use both optical connections if you need all eight channels. At 44.1 and 48 kHz, one optical connection carries all eight channels.
EVO SP8 does not support 176.4 or 192 kHz.
No audio from the line outputs
Check Output Source in the Setup Menu.
- Select Analogue for the eight EVO preamps to feed the corresponding line outputs.
- Select Digital for the eight incoming ADAT channels to feed the corresponding line outputs.
EVO SP8 is connected by USB but is not available for audio
The rear USB-C port labelled For Updates Only is used for firmware updates. Connect EVO SP8 to the host audio interface through optical ADAT for normal digital-audio operation.
Smartgain displays Issue Detected
- Check the microphone cable.
- Check whether the microphone requires phantom power.
- Move the microphone closer to the sound source if required.
- Run Smartgain again.
Failed channels are automatically selected for another pass. When using Smartgain across several inputs, make sure every selected microphone receives signal while Smartgain is listening.
An EVO Expanded System will not synchronise
For EVO 16 + one SP8, check that EVO 16 uses Internal clock and ADAT optical format, while EVO SP8 uses Word Clock, termination On and Sample Rate Auto.
For EVO 16 + two SP8 units, both SP8 units use Word Clock and Auto. Set termination Off on the first SP8 and On on the final SP8. EVO 16 remains Internal with optical format set to ADAT.
Firmware update fails
If From Audient.com fails, or the update computer has no internet connection, contact Audient Support for assistance with a local firmware file.
Still having problems?
Third-party interfaces may use different clocking and digital-audio settings. Refer to the host interface documentation and contact Audient Support if the correct configuration is unclear.
