Audio Interfaces and Cabling
ASP4816-SE uses electronically balanced or ground-sensing analogue interfaces with RFI rejection and protection against accidental misuse such as the connection of phantom-powered cables.
XLR pin convention
| XLR pin | Function |
|---|---|
| 1 | Chassis / safety ground |
| 2 | Signal positive (+) |
| 3 | Signal negative (−) |
Signal connections are provided on XLR, TRS and DB25 connectors depending on the function.
Connecting unbalanced equipment
To unbalance an ASP4816-SE output, connect XLR pin 3 to pin 1 at the console output.
When connecting an unbalanced source to an ASP4816-SE input, use twin-screened cable and connect pin 3 to the screen at the unbalanced source.
DB25 connections
All DB25 connectors on ASP4816-SE use the Tascam-standard analogue pinout. For the individual pin allocation, see Audient's DB25 Pinout reference.
Cable screens
For optimum audio performance, cable screens should be correctly connected at both ends of the cable run. This allows the equipment chassis and cable screening to provide effective electromagnetic shielding.
High-quality braided-screen cable is recommended.
