ORIA Remote iPad app
ORIA Remote provides wireless touch control of ORIA from an iPad.
You can adjust monitoring levels, switch Profiles, audition speakers, select input sources and view metering without leaving the listening position.
The app connects to ORIA Control on the host computer rather than connecting directly to ORIA.
Requirements
To use ORIA Remote, you need:
- An iPad running iPadOS 16 or later
- The latest version of ORIA Remote from the Apple App Store
- ORIA connected to a Mac or Windows computer through USB
- ORIA Control running on the host computer
- The iPad and host computer connected to the same local network
The host computer can connect to the network through Ethernet while the iPad connects through Wi-Fi, provided both connections are part of the same network.
Remote connectivity requires ORIA Control 1.1.1 or later and ORIA firmware 1.1.0 or later.
Install the latest available versions of ORIA Control, ORIA Remote and the ORIA firmware before starting.
Connecting ORIA Remote
- Connect ORIA to the host computer through USB.
- Open ORIA Control on the computer.
- Open the Apple App Store on the iPad.
- Search for ORIA Remote and install the app.
- Open ORIA Remote and complete the introductory guide.
- When prompted, allow ORIA Remote to find devices on the local network.
- Select the host computer from the Available Devices list.
- Return to ORIA Control on the computer.
- Select Accept when the connection request appears.
- Wait for the successful-connection message to appear on the iPad.
The iPad is now added to the list of approved remote devices and can control ORIA while the app and host computer remain connected to the network.
Connection requests
When a new remote device attempts to connect, ORIA Control provides three options:
- Accept — Approves the device and allows it to control ORIA.
- Deny — Rejects the current connection request. The device can request access again.
- Block — Rejects the request and prevents the device from sending further connection requests.
Only accept connection requests from devices that you recognise and want to use with ORIA.
Application overview
Use the sidebar in ORIA Remote to open the following pages:
- Home
- Room
- Monitoring
- Metering
- Profiles
- Connection
- Settings
Home page
The Home page provides access to ORIA’s main monitoring controls.
Profile selection
Select one of the four favourite Profiles stored on ORIA.
The active Profile determines the speaker configuration, calibration and reference level currently in use.
To select a Profile outside the four favourite slots, open the Profiles page.
Speaker group controls
The speaker-group controls allow related outputs to be muted or soloed together.
Depending on the active speaker configuration, the available groups can include:
- Fronts
- Sides
- Heights
- Subs
- Stereo
Monitoring
The Monitoring section provides access to the input source, main speaker level and global monitor controls.
Input source
Select the source that ORIA uses for monitoring.
Available sources can include:
- USB
- ADAT
- Dante
- Mixes created using ORIA’s low-latency software mixer
The available options depend on the hardware and routing configuration currently in use.
Renderer status
When ORIA is linked to a Dolby Atmos Renderer, the Renderer Status control can be used to select the required downmix format.
For setup instructions, see How to link the Downmix button to a Renderer.
Main volume
The Main Volume control adjusts the overall level sent to the active speaker configuration.
The control is locked by default to prevent accidental level changes.
Tap the control to unlock it, then adjust the level. Its locking behaviour can be changed using Volume Control Autolock on the Settings page.
Global monitor controls
The following monitoring functions can be controlled from the app:
- Mute — Mutes the active speaker outputs.
- Mono — Sums the Left and Right channels for mono-compatibility checking.
- DIM — Reduces the speaker level by the amount configured in ORIA Control.
- Phase — Reverses the polarity of the Left channel and sums it with the Right channel, allowing the stereo difference information to be auditioned.
ORIA Remote also provides headphone volume and mute control.
Headphone control requires ORIA Control 1.3.4 or later, ORIA firmware 1.1.4 or later and ORIA Remote 1.1.1 or later.
Output metering
The meters on the Home page show the signal level before ORIA’s speaker calibration and output-volume processing.
Open the Metering page to switch between pre-calibration and post-calibration metering.
Room page
The Room page provides a visual representation of the active speaker configuration.
Use this page to:
- Mute or solo individual speaker outputs
- Control speaker groups
- Check which speakers are currently active
- Switch between favourite profiles
Muted speakers and speakers excluded by an active solo are shown as inactive in the room display.
Monitoring page
The Monitoring page provides an expanded view of the monitoring controls found on the Home page.
This page brings together:
- Profile selection
- Main speaker volume
- Global monitor controls
- Speaker-group mute and solo controls
- The active speaker configuration
Metering page
The Metering page provides an expanded view of ORIA’s output meters.
Select either PRE or POST metering:
- PRE — Shows signals entering ORIA before speaker calibration and output-volume processing.
- POST — Shows signals after speaker calibration and output-volume processing.
The POST meters therefore reflect changes made to the main listening level and the calibration applied to each speaker output.
Profiles page
The Profiles page displays all Profiles currently stored on ORIA, including Profiles that are not assigned to the four favourite slots.
Tap a Profile to make it active.
Profiles must be created, edited and stored on ORIA using ORIA Control. The remote app is used to recall Profiles that have already been configured.
Connection page
Use the Connection page to check the current connection, reconnect to the host computer or select a different available host.
Any computer shown on this page must:
- Be running ORIA Control
- Be connected to ORIA through USB
- Be connected to the same local network as the iPad
A new host computer must approve the iPad before remote control is enabled.
Settings page
The Settings page controls the appearance of ORIA Remote and the locking behaviour of its Main Volume control.
App colour mode
Select:
- Light
- Dark
- System Default
When System Default is selected, ORIA Remote follows the appearance setting used by iPadOS.
Volume control autolock
When Volume Control Autolock is enabled, the Main Volume control locks automatically after you adjust the level and tap elsewhere in the app.
When Autolock is disabled, the volume control remains unlocked until you tap it again.
Managing remote devices
Approved and blocked devices can be managed from ORIA Control:
- Open ORIA Control.
- Open the System Panel.
- Select Remotes.
Accepted devices appear under Approved Devices. A green indicator is shown when an approved device is currently connected.
Approved devices can reconnect automatically when ORIA Control and the remote device are available on the same network.
To remove an approved device, open its information panel and select the option to forget the device. The device must then request permission again before it can reconnect.
Blocked devices appear under Blocked Devices. Open the device information panel and unblock it before allowing it to request another connection.
Troubleshooting the connection
The host computer does not appear
Check that:
- ORIA is connected to the host computer through USB.
- ORIA Control is open.
- The iPad and host computer are connected to the same local network.
- Local Network access is enabled for ORIA Remote in the iPadOS settings.
- ORIA Control and Audient Device Manager have permission to access the local network.
- ORIA Control, ORIA Remote and the ORIA firmware are up to date.
The host computer does not need to use Wi-Fi. An Ethernet connection can be used when it is connected to the same network as the iPad.
The connection request does not appear
The connection-request window may be hidden behind the main ORIA Control window.
Move or minimise the main window and check for the connection request again.
If the request was previously closed using the window’s close button, the iPad may have been added to the blocked-device list.
Open System Panel > Remotes, locate the iPad under Blocked Devices and unblock it before reconnecting.
An approved iPad no longer connects
- Open the Connection page in ORIA Remote.
- Select the host computer again.
- Open System Panel > Remotes in ORIA Control.
- Check that the iPad has not been blocked.
- If necessary, forget the approved device and complete the approval process again.
