Talkback and Master Controls

Talkback

Talkback can be routed to the Studio Loudspeaker, Foldback system or the record buses.

  • LEVEL sets the talkback microphone level.
  • SLATE sends talkback to the record buses, for example for spoken track identification.
  • SLS sends talkback to the Studio Loudspeaker output.
  • FB sends talkback to the Foldback outputs.

Pressing a talkback destination automatically dims the control-room monitors to reduce feedback and improve intelligibility. The console output buses themselves are not dimmed by this monitor action.

The Talkback microphone input can be internally configured for phantom power. Current Audient guidance identifies this as a service-access modification involving LK1 on the 10800-1 board. It should only be carried out by someone competent to work inside the console; see the Audient Help Desk article linked from Warranty and Service.

Auxiliary Masters

Each Aux has a master output-level control and an AFL SOLO switch.

The Aux linking system can combine related send buses:

  • Aux 3 and Aux 5 can be linked into Aux 1.
  • Aux 4 and Aux 6 can be linked into Aux 2.

When linked, the leftmost Aux in the group is the master output; for example, when Aux 3 is linked to Aux 1, use the Aux 1 output.

Bus Master Trims

The 16 record buses each have a BUS MASTER TRIM with approximately +/-10 dB range. These controls provide the final bus-output level adjustment without changing the relative balance of channels feeding the bus.

Master Fader

The stereo Master Fader controls the final Mix output level.

Its 0 dB position is at the top of the travel. Under normal operating conditions it should generally remain at or near 0 dB, with upstream Mix levels set so that the Master Fader is not being used to correct an excessively hot Mix bus.
