Rear-Panel Connections
ASP4816 uses locking XLR, TRS jack and 25-pin D-sub connectors across the rear panel.
XLR convention
- Pin 1 - chassis/screen
- Pin 2 - signal positive (+)
- Pin 3 - signal negative (-)
For an unbalanced connection from an ASP4816 balanced output, connect Pin 3 to Pin 1 at the console output. For unbalanced sources feeding the console, the source should be wired appropriately using screened cable so that the cold connection is referenced at the unbalanced source end.
Use good-quality screened cable and maintain the screen connection through the system to preserve EMC/RFI rejection.
Control Room outputs
The rear panel provides stereo outputs for MAIN, ALT 1, ALT 2 and ALT 3 monitors.
The console does not contain loudspeaker power amplification. Connect these outputs to active monitors or to an appropriate external power amplifier driving passive monitors.
Studio and Foldback outputs
The Studio, Foldback A and Foldback B outputs are stereo XLR pairs.
- The Studio output should feed active monitors or an appropriate loudspeaker power amplifier.
- Foldback A/B are line-level outputs intended to feed a suitable headphone amplifier or other line-level monitoring system; headphones are not driven directly from these XLR outputs.
Aux and Cue outputs
Cue A/B and Aux 1–6 are balanced line-level outputs. Cue A/B are normally used for Foldback, while the Aux outputs are commonly used for effects sends or other auxiliary feeds.
Subgroup inserts and Line Inputs 17–24
Each of the eight subgroup insert points has a send and return. The insert returns also provide Line Inputs 17–24 when they are not being used as subgroup insert returns.
Stereo Input connectors
Each of the four Stereo Inputs uses left and right TRS jacks. When only the left input is connected, it is normalled to the right path for mono operation; inserting a plug into the right input breaks that normalled connection.
Monitor inputs
The monitoring section provides stereo inputs for DAW, EXT 1 and EXT 2. All three are available to the Control Room section; EXT 1 and EXT 2 are also available to the Studio/Foldback section.
Mix outputs and Mix inserts
The Mix path provides left/right insert send and return jacks plus three parallel stereo Mix output pairs. The Mix insert is located before the stereo bus compressor.
Bus and subgroup outputs
Three 25-pin D-sub connectors carry:
- Buses 1–8
- Buses 9–16
- Subgroup / Line 17–24 outputs
