Console Architecture

Console layout

ASP4816 combines the main input channels, subgroup and stereo-input sections, master controls, monitoring and metering on one control surface.

The rear panel groups the channel inputs and inserts with the master, monitoring, Aux, mix, bus and subgroup connections.

In-line architecture

Each of the 16 main channels contains two signal paths:

  • Short Fader (SF) - normally fed from the Mic/Line input and commonly used as the recording path.
  • Long Fader (LF) - normally fed from the DAW input and commonly used as the monitoring or mix path.

On the ASP4816 Classic control surface, dark areas and dark buttons correspond to the SF path, while lighter areas correspond to the LF path.

Press FLIP to exchange the Mic/Line and DAW sources between the two paths. Backlit source legends show the assignment currently in use.

The EQ is split into HF/LF and MID sections. Each section can remain in the LF path or be moved independently to the SF path using its SF switch. Aux pairs can also be sourced from the SF path and selected pre- or post-fader.

Typical studio configuration

A typical installation connects microphones and line sources to the channel inputs, the 16 buses to DAW inputs, DAW outputs back to the console, and the monitor and Foldback outputs to the relevant loudspeaker and headphone systems.
