Troubleshooting
Use the checks below for common EVO 4 setup and operating issues. If the problem remains after completing the relevant checks, contact Audient Support.
EVO 4 is not detected by the computer
- Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable at both ends.
- Try another USB port on the computer.
- If possible, connect EVO 4 directly to the computer rather than through a USB hub or dock.
- Try another USB data cable. Audient recommends a cable under 2 metres when diagnosing connection issues.
- On Windows, make sure the current EVO driver is installed and restart the computer after installation.
For Windows systems that repeatedly lose connection, Audient also recommends checking the computer's USB and power-management settings. See Common connection troubleshooting on Windows.
There is no signal from an input
First, press the numbered button for the input you are using and check the meter ring around the Control Knob.
If there is no input level on the meter:
- Check that the microphone, instrument and cable are connected securely.
- Increase the input gain or use Smartgain.
- If the microphone requires phantom power, select the input and enable 48V.
- Try a different audio cable.
- If using rear input 1, check that an instrument cable is not connected to the front instrument input. Connecting the instrument input overrides the rear input 1 signal path.
- Check that the input has not been muted. A flashing input button indicates that the channel is muted; press and hold the button to unmute it.
If EVO 4 shows input level but the recording application does not:
- Make sure EVO 4 is selected as the application's input device.
- On macOS, make sure the application has permission to access audio input under the system's microphone/privacy settings.
- On Windows, confirm that the required EVO input is selected in the application's audio settings.
For the full Audient checklist, see Why am I getting no signal from my Inputs?.
I can see input level but cannot hear the input
If you want to hear the EVO 4 input directly while recording:
- Press Monitor Mix.
- Turn the Control Knob towards the Input side of the mix.
- Check that the monitor speakers or headphones are connected and their level is raised.
Remember that connecting headphones to EVO 4 automatically mutes the monitor outputs. This is the SmartMuting behaviour described in Monitoring and Output Controls.
A channel or output button is flashing
A flashing numbered input button or Output Volume button indicates that the corresponding channel has been muted.
Press and hold the flashing button to unmute it.
Smartgain flashes red or does not complete
A red Smartgain indication means EVO 4 did not detect enough input signal to set the gain.
Check that:
- The source is connected to the selected input.
- You are performing at the level you expect to record while Smartgain is analysing the signal.
- The input is not muted.
- Phantom power is enabled if the connected microphone requires it.
Then run Smartgain again. See Input Controls and Smartgain for the full procedure.
The EVO application appears not to open
The EVO application can remain available from the operating system menu area rather than appearing as a conventional application window.
- On macOS, check the menu bar at the top-right of the screen for the EVO icon.
- On Windows, check the system tray at the bottom-right of the screen.
With EVO 4 connected, use the EVO menu to open EVO Control or the Loopback Mixer.
See EVO Application Won't Open for the current Audient guidance.
Loopback is not appearing or recording
- Make sure EVO 4 is connected and the EVO application is installed.
- Open the Loopback Mixer from the EVO application menu.
- In the recording or streaming application, select Loopback 1+2 or Input 3+4 as the stereo input.
- Check that the required source faders are raised in the Loopback Mixer.
Loopback is not available when EVO 4 is used with iOS. See Audio Loopback for the complete macOS and Windows routing process.
EVO 4 behaves unexpectedly after power-up
Install the latest EVO software and firmware before carrying out deeper troubleshooting. Firmware updates include compatibility improvements and fixes for previously identified behaviour.
