Mixing
Bring DAW tracks onto the console
DAW inputs normally feed the Long Faders.
- Leave FLIP disengaged where the normal DAW-to-LF arrangement is required.
- With MTR disengaged, use the 20-segment channel meters to view the DAW input levels.
- Engage MIX for each Long Fader that should feed the stereo Mix bus.
- Start the active Long Faders around 0 dB and build the mix from there.
The stereo Mix should now appear on the master meters and control-room monitoring.
Create subgroups
ASP4816-HE provides eight subgroups in parallel with buses 1–8.
- In the routing section, engage LF so the routing matrix receives the LF/DAW-return signal.
- Select the required bus or bus pair from 1–8.
- For stereo grouping, engage PAN and select an odd/even pair, such as 1+2.
- Use the channel pan to place the signal between the odd and even subgroup buses.
- Use the subgroup faders to control the grouped level and engage subgroup MIX to feed the stereo Mix bus.
Add EQ
Engage IN on the required EQ section. The HF/LF shelves provide broad tonal adjustment; the HMF and LMF parametric sections provide variable frequency and Q for more targeted boosts or cuts.
Use Heritage mix-bus processing
The Heritage processing occurs before the Mix Insert and compressor.
- Engage XFRMR DRIVE to place the transformer stage in circuit.
- Add LOW BUMP and HIGH LIFT as required; these two controls only operate while XFRMR Drive is engaged.
- Use the mix-bus compressor after the insert for overall dynamic control where required.
A useful workflow is to engage XFRMR Drive after establishing the initial level and pan balance, then make further mix decisions with the transformer stage active.
Use channel inserts
For series processing of a DAW-return channel:
- Connect the processor between the DAW Insert Send and Return.
- Press INSERT IN in the DAW input section.
Subgroups provide their own insert points for processing grouped channels.
Use auxiliaries for parallel effects
- Connect the selected Aux output to the external processor input.
- Return the processor output to an unused channel or one of the Stereo Inputs.
- Raise the appropriate channel Aux sends.
- Raise the corresponding Aux Master.
- Use the Aux Master Solo to check the signal being sent to the processor.
Auxiliary processing leaves the original channel path available while the effect return is mixed separately.
