Connect and set the input

  1. Connect the microphone or line-level source to the required channel.
  2. When using the TRS Line input, press MIC/LINE to select Line.
  3. If the microphone requires phantom power, mute the relevant channel and turn down speaker/headphone monitoring before engaging 48V.
  4. Set the Mic/Line gain while watching the input meter and avoid the OVER indication.

By default the 20-segment channel meter displays the DAW input and the 3-segment meter displays Mic/Line. Press MTR when you want the Mic/Line input on the larger meter.

Send the signal to the recording system

The SF path normally carries the Mic/Line signal.

  1. Use the bus-routing matrix to assign the SF signal to the required recording bus.
  2. Use SHIFT for buses 9–16 if required.
  3. Raise the Short Fader to set the signal level sent to the bus output.

With the Short Fader at 0 dB, it neither boosts nor attenuates the signal. The Short Fader can also be lowered while increasing preamp gain when a more driven preamp character is wanted; the console manual describes this as an optional creative technique rather than a requirement for normal recording.

Monitor recorded tracks

DAW returns normally arrive on the LF paths.

  1. Raise the required Long Faders.
  2. Engage MIX on those LF paths.
  3. Build the control-room monitoring balance without changing the live SF recording paths.

Create artist foldback

Cue A and Cue B can combine live inputs with guide/click playback.

  1. Return the guide or click track from the DAW on one or more channel DAW inputs. Keeping guide tracks on dedicated channels, such as channels near the end of the console, can make the session easier to navigate.
  2. Raise the required Cue send from those LF paths.
  3. For live Mic/Line sources, engage SF beside the Cue sends so the cue receives the SF input signal.
  4. Use the Cue Master Solo controls to check the feed.
  5. Raise the relevant Cue Master.
  6. In the Studio/Foldback section, select Cue A and/or Cue B for the required Foldback output.

Cue A can be used as the left side and Cue B as the right side of a stereo foldback feed.

Record through channel processing

Channel inserts

Connect an external processor between the channel Insert Send and Return, then press INSERT IN in the Mic/Line section to place the processor in the recording path.

EQ

To record through channel EQ:

  1. Engage IN on the required EQ section.
  2. Engage that EQ section's SF switch.
  3. Set the EQ as required.

HF/LF and MID sections can be split between LF and SF independently.
