Glossary
Add-on Licence
A Sonarworks licence that enables SoundID Reference calibration Profiles to be exported to a specific ORIA Mini unit.
A separate ORIA Mini Room Correction Add-on licence is required for each unit.
Analogue Input
An audio input that receives a continuously varying electrical signal.
ORIA Mini provides two balanced TRS analogue inputs and also accepts unbalanced connections.
Crossover
A filter that divides audio between the main speakers and subwoofer.
When an ORIA Mini crossover is enabled, audio below the selected frequency is removed from the selected speaker channel and redirected to the Subwoofer output.
Crossover Attenuation
A global control that reduces the level of signals sent to the Subwoofer output through the crossover controls.
dB
Decibel. A logarithmic unit used to express the level or ratio of an audio signal.
dBFS
Decibels relative to full scale.
A digital level of 0 dBFS is the maximum level that can be represented before digital clipping occurs.
dBu
A unit used to describe analogue signal level, referenced to 0.775 volts RMS.
Delay
A calibration control that postpones the signal sent to an individual speaker.
Delay can be used to time-align speakers so that their sound reaches the listening position at the same time.
Dim
A monitoring control that temporarily reduces the speaker output by the amount selected using DIM Trim.
DSP
Digital signal processing.
ORIA Mini uses DSP to apply EQ, Channel Trim, Delay and crossover processing to its speaker outputs.
EQ
Equalisation.
EQ changes the level of selected frequency ranges to help correct or shape a speaker’s response.
Favourite Profile
One of four Profiles assigned to the numbered Favourite positions in ORIA Control.
Favourite Profiles can be selected using the ORIA Mini front-panel Profile button or Stream Deck Profile actions.
Global Bypass
A control that bypasses EQ, Channel Trim and Delay processing.
Global Bypass does not disable crossover processing.
IIR Filter
Infinite impulse response filter.
A type of digital filter used to apply calibration EQ in SoundID Reference Profiles stored on ORIA Mini.
Line Level
The signal level normally used when connecting audio interfaces, mixers, monitor controllers, powered speakers and other audio equipment.
Mono
A monitoring mode that sums the left and right channels for mono-compatibility checking.
ORIA Control
The desktop application used to configure, calibrate and control ORIA Mini.
ORIA Remote
An iPad application that provides remote access to ORIA Mini monitoring, Profile and metering controls through ORIA Control.
Peak Indicator
The front-panel indicator that shows when an input or output peak has been detected.
Polarity
The direction of an audio waveform relative to a reference.
The ORIA Mini Polarity monitoring control reverses the polarity of the left channel and sums the left and right channels to mono. This produces a difference signal that can be used to audition content that differs between the two channels.
POST Metering
Metering measured after ORIA Mini’s speaker processing and Speaker Volume control.
PRE Metering
Metering measured at the selected ORIA Mini input before speaker processing is applied.
Profile
A stored set of ORIA Mini calibration settings.
A Profile contains EQ, Channel Trim, Delay and crossover settings for the speaker outputs.
Q
A parameter that controls the width of a parametric EQ band.
A higher Q value affects a narrower frequency range. A lower Q value affects a wider frequency range.
Room Correction
The use of acoustic measurement and signal processing to improve the response of the speakers at the listening position.
Sample Rate
The number of times per second that a digital audio signal is sampled.
Sample rate is expressed in kilohertz, such as 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz or 96 kHz.
Sample-Rate Conversion
The process of converting digital audio from one sample rate to another.
ORIA Mini uses built-in sample-rate conversion for signals received through its optical S/PDIF input.
Signal Indicator
The front-panel indicator that shows when ORIA Mini is receiving a suitable audio signal from the selected input.
SoundID Reference
Sonarworks software used to measure a listening environment and create speaker-calibration Profiles.
S/PDIF
Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format.
A two-channel digital audio format. ORIA Mini receives S/PDIF through its optical input.
Speaker Group
A collection of speaker outputs that can be controlled together.
ORIA Mini provides Stereo and Subs Speaker Groups.
Speaker Profile Trim
A Profile-wide level adjustment used to match the overall level of one Profile with another.
TOSLINK
The optical connector and cable format used for the ORIA Mini S/PDIF input.
Trim
A level adjustment applied to an individual speaker output during calibration.
USB-C
The connector used to power ORIA Mini and carry control communication between the device and ORIA Control.
ORIA Mini does not transmit or receive audio through USB.
